Oscars Fashion: Hits And Misses

Fashion was out in full force last night at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards. Here are my picks for the best and worst:

BEST DRESSED:

Mila Kunis: Lavender lace and silk organza gown by Elie Saab Haute Couture
SIMPLY stunning!

Other hits:

Jennifer Lawrence: Calvin Klein Collection

Hilary Swank: Gucci
What I WOULDN'T give to wear this gown!

Halle Berry: Marchesa

Hailee Steinfeld: Marchesa
Best dressed girl of 2011--very age appropriate!

Gwyneth Paltro: Calvin Klein Collection

Natalie Portman: Rodarte
Rodarte also designed the costumes for Black Swan, for which Natalie accepted the award for "Best Actress".

Mandy Moore: Monique Lhuillier

Misses:

Reese Witherspoon: Armani Prive
Pageant queen?

Marisa Tomei: Charles James

Nicole Kidman: Christian Dior Haute Couture

Helena Bonham Carter: Colleen Atwood
Wearing Colleen Atwood (costume designer), paying tribute to film, instead of fashion. Helena, you always seem to find yourself on the worst dressed list but we love you anyway.

Almost, but not quite:

Melissa Leo: Mark Bouwer
Congrats to Melissa for stepping out of her comfort zone and into a gown, however it seems a little boxy on her figure.

Scarlett Johansson: Dolce & Gabbana
Yes, she looks beautiful. The color is gorgeous and the fit is mostly flattering but I'm not a fan of the see-through lace (is it on purpose?) nor the undone hair for the Oscars.

Cate Blanchett: Givenchy Haute Couture
Props to Cate for taking such a risk but this dress seems too futuristic for the Oscars.

Amy Adams: L'Wren Scott
Love this dress--extremely figure flattering! However, because the dress's neckline is cut so high already, I definitely would have lost the necklace.

What did you guys think of last night's fashion? Who should receive awards for BEST and WORST dressed?

Anne Hathaway Does No Wrong

Anne Hathaway worked it hard as the co-host of the 83rd Annual Academy Awards last night, but she worked it even harder in those 8 AMAZINGLY beautiful outfits. Styled by Rachel Zoe, Hathaway looked absolutely stunning in all of them...and also helped to add interest to James Franco's less than compelling performance.

Vintage Red Valentino

Givenchy Haute Couture creation by Riccardo Tisci

Lanvin, Brian Atwood

Vivienne Westwood

Oscar De La Renta

Atelier Versace

Giorgio Armani Privé

Tom Ford

Which look from last night was your favorite?

Personal Style: What To Do With Pleather Pants??

I can't afford leather right now, so I wear pleather as the alternative. But ever wonder what exactly to do with pleather pants? Pleather pants make for great costumes (I've used mine as part of a penguin, super hero and oil spill ensemble) but they can also be wearable for the everyday, if done right. Here are a few ways of incorporating these leggings into an outfit while avoiding them coming off as trashy!

1. flirty and fun

2. boho: peace, love and happiness

3. sexy and sophisticated

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Personal Style: Stand Out In Black

Don't shy away from fashion! Be creative, playful and take risks when dressing yourself. The 'color' black is fun and sophisticated and definitely a good place to start when mixing prints, patterns and textures. Here I am creating a look with my textured tights that I've had for 2 years and never worn--I love how they help add interest to a potentially boring outfit!

Personal Style: All Kinds Of Prints

Feeling extra ambitious the other day...so I thought I'd take a chance on prints! Kind of excited about what I put together--I'm loving the thigh-highs, but I think a pair in black or gray could be a little more wearable for the everyday!

Personal Style: Staying Neutral

I definitely love neutrals...in fact I usually gravitate towards them. But I find other ways to keep my outfits interesting by adding fun textures, patterns and sometimes with a POP of color.

By the way, I am head-over-heels for this hat...and because I helped make it--sort of (cutting strips of fur and balling up yarn), I feel an extra special connection! This hat is designed by Lily Raskind of Sunshine and Shadow and FYI she is absolutely amazing. I interned for her in the Summer of 2009 and couldn't be more thankful for the experience!
