Added Responsibility

So Monday afternoon my boss took off for Paris! For the rest of the day I sat in for her, trying to get acquainted with her position and daily tasks. Before she left, she briefed me as to my responsibilities and such, telling me that no one thing about her job is particularly difficult, rather it is doing them all at once and learning how to prioritize! I sat at her desk reading emails and putting in the pick ups for looks that we need to get in by Wednesday, we have three shoots this weekend! It seems sort of hectic already, but I'm getting the hang of it. Once I have any down time, I have to put on hold my job as my boss and go back to being me, for the next two weeks I am my own intern as well. It is kind of interesting however, because I get to follow and initiate the whole process from start to finish. This includes: communicating with the PR contact of whichever designer, calling in the look, putting in the pick up information, making sure it gets in on time, checking it in and then placing it on the correct rack based on the story it was pulled for. I am completely responsible for this process!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention the mouse on the loose in the office!! YUCK!

In other news, today has been quite crazy! For one reason or another we keep getting in the wrong looks, for instance, we call in look 12 but get in look 22, somehow the message gets lost in translation. So it has been my responsibility to correct the mistake--send the look back and request the other. Other than that, however, things are going great! When I thought that the day was starting to come to an end though...boy was I wrong! I relieved myself of my assistant duties and went off to help the other interns until 8:15pm--all in heels!

Long day but great experience!!!

Willow

Willow (by Australian designer Kit Willow) was beautiful. She showed looks that were both feminine and fierce, colors ranging from black to nude, red to bubble gum pink. The clothes were essentially a second skin, a shadow, as expressed by the title of this latest collection "eclipse". Willow expressed, “It is about dressing women in 2010. It’s not about being nostalgic or futuristic. It’s about the ease of movement, practical wearability and inspiring fresh ideas in design.”

In a Nutshell

So, in a nutshell, the past couple of days at the internship have been full of returns, style.com, recipe and credit binders, oh and snow! While this week has been relatively uneventful, next week (and the week after that) I will be sitting in for my boss while she attends the fashion shows in Paris!! Actually, I will not only just be sitting in for her, I will be her. She expects that it will be busy too, as there will be quite a few upcoming shoots to prepare for. I will be sitting at her desk, answering her phone and emails, making sure that we get in the clothes on time for the various editors. Hopefully everything goes smoothly! Paris is 6 hours ahead of New York. Wish I could have gone with her, but have a safe (and fun) trip!!

Hung out with the interns last night though! Shopping and Cafeteria for dinner--chicken and waffles...yum!!!

What Did You Do Today?

So today I continued a project that I started last Friday. The fashion magazine that I am interning for is creating a cookbook and I was instructed to go through the old archives of magazines and photocopy specific recipes. As of now, I am still not done, the project ended up being a little more intensive that expected but I'll finish tomorrow.

Speaking of which, tomorrow is a late night. The interns will be staying late again to get out all of the returns (including the last of the never-ending swim)! It will be a long day-12 hours but in good company.

This week should be pretty similar to last however (though without shows of course), runs, printing out looks from style.com, photocopying looks and sitting sheets as well as checkins and returns.

Inspiration

Yesterday I met two of my fellow interns in the city for

a day of adventure! We started the day with some affordable shopping and some lunch and then proceeded in and out of stores way out of our price range! On our way, we happened upon the BEST CUPCAKES I've ever tasted in my life! Crumbs Bake Shop located on 501 Madison Ave: http://www.crumbs.com/. We were in heaven, as my friend put it, "I don't think I'll ever need a man again!" We split the red velvet and carrot.

We finally made it to the Central Park ice skating rink (our original plan)...

...however, it ended up being pricier than we had anticipated.

We then wandered into Bergdorf Goodman where we met Eddie Borgo (jewelry designer), very nice and talented man. He was there presenting his new collection-rock n' roll inspired, he said. http://eddieborgo.com/Eddie_Borgo_Jewelry_Designer_Home.html

Then, one of my friends spotted one of his idols--Linda Fargo, the Senior Vice President of Visual Merchandising at Bergdorf Goodman. (The woman in the back of the picture).

After a long day, we headed to the movie theater and saw Valentine's Day (I wanted to see Shutter Island) but was out voted.

I didn't get home until after 2:00am but what a FUN DAY!

It's truly amazing what you can do with paper!

London Fashion Week

Cynthia Steffe

Cynthia Steffe's collection was very accessible, very wearable. You did not have to look hard to see the school girl (and often parisian) influence. There were a lot of separates (something that Cynthia Steffe has always been known for) and no color (only neutrals). Shaun Kearney of Cynthia Steffe used much leather (which helped to add an edge) and created many cropped jackets and high waisted pieces. Although there were not many prints present (except a soft subtle floral), there were checks, stripes and pleats. Additionally, each look was equipped with knee high socks (which I remember from my

childhood).
